In my dream a couple nights ago I was babysitting some of my friends babies for a few days. (By the way Kensey, you're having a boy if you were wondering) I kept forgetting them everywhere I went. They were such good babies that they never made a sound. I would put them on a shelf, for example, and a day later they would still be there. If I wasn't forgetting them somewhere I was forgetting to feed them and change their diaper etc. etc. etc. I woke up several times and when I would fall asleep this horrible dream continued (that never happens to me). Each time I woke up a flood of relief washed over me. Imagine if I really forgot my child?! Which reminds me that I was forgotten once......sorta...
My Dad was taking my sister to work at Foodtown and I wanted to go along for the ride. I was in the back and Cheri was in the front seat. Which means she had probably called the front seat as we were walking down the front steps and I probably wished I had called it sooner. The front was a big deal in my family. Front seat=power. ie Music control, temperature control, beverage control (Our Camry didn't have cup holders in the back. It was tough). We arrived at Kamas Foodtown and Cheri started to get out, as did I, so I could sit in the front seat ( big deal, remember?). I had barely slipped out and closed the back door when my Dad zoomed off. I started waving my hands while yelling, "DAAAADDD!!" He didn't hear me. I ran the entire length of the parking lot that day. He didn't see me. I ventured on. It was like a scene out of a movie. I started to close in as he sat at the stop sign waiting for his turn to merge onto the main road. Just as my fingertips brushed the back windshield he took off! I watched him drive out of view as I continued to wave my hands hoping he'd check his rear view mirror. I wiped off my dusty fingertips and had a good, out of breath, chuckle. I was young but it was still a long parking lot! I waited for what seemed like a long time thinking any second I'd see him turn the corner and rescue me from my new parking lot home. I eventually gave up and started the walk of shame. My Dad had forgotten me. OK, I wasn't really ashamed, I was giggling too much as I walked back into Foodtown. 20 min. later he finally pulled up. He told me he had made it almost to Woodland before he realized I wasn't in the car. He had carried on an entire conversation with himself and kept thinking it was weird I wasn't responding. He finally looked back to find an empty back seat. I would have paid good money to see his face. However, I would have spent much more if I could have been guaranteed a front seat from then on. Front seat=power, music control, temperature control, beverage control, and (recently added) making it home control. Priceless.
